Augmented Reality in Training

We’ve all seen the wonders of Augmented Reality in Snapchat and Pokémon GO, the online viral sensation that took over the mobile gaming world. In addition to keeping you entertained Augmented Reality (AR) is capable of doing much more, even in the work environment. In this article, we explore the various ways in which AR can be integrated into organisation to make training more streamlined and effective.

augmented reality

Let’s first take a look at what exactly AR is. It’s “an enhanced version of reality created by the use of technology to overlay digital information on an image of something being viewed through a device (such as a smartphone camera)”

Augmented Reality has a variety of benefits, including:

  • Making training visual, auditory, and kinesthetic
  • Helping workers navigate the factory and warehouse more efficiently
  • Identifying the proper tools and parts required for a task
  • Providing step-by-step instructions
  • Alerting and even correcting missteps along the way providing real-time feedback
  • Overlaying key performance metrics and operational data onto equipment to illustrate how the factory is responding to changes.

AR in the Manufacturing Industries

Health and safety is extremely vital in the manufacturing industries considering how many risks employees are exposed to. For this reason, training is absolutely necessary to ensure that they are fully aware of the correct (and safe) working procedures that are in place.

AR can be implemented by placing triggers stickers on, for example, a machine. The employee would then scan the sticker and a 3D image would appear on the screen. This can be anything: a video, text or even an interactive 3D image.

AR in an Office Environment

Being a new employee can be a daunting experience. You’re almost clueless about the office space and have to make an ally who you’ll constantly annoy with questions. With AR, new employees will only need the help of their mobile devices and trigger stickers to, for example, learn how to use the coffee machine or printer. It can drastically improve how new employees are inducted and can even be useful for existing employees in other ways.

AR offers enormous benefits in the company for training applications, rolling out standard operating procedures and many others. Looking to improve your organisation and staff using AR? Contact us today for quote.
