Ten Types of Video Your Company Needs

Video is the most popular medium of media and probably the most flexible. As a company you need to be fully aware of the different types of video that are available to you to ensure you utilise this super medium to its fullest.

Corporate Video

The corporate video is essentially a professionally produced story of your company. A video is created in order to communicate what the company is about.  The video should answer the following questions:

  • What do we do as a company
  • Who we do it for
  • Where do we come from/what is our history

The video is typically created for stakeholders and as such should contain no hardselling.

Used for:

  • Sales collateral to give potential clients an overview of the company
  • In the “About us” section of your website

Marketing Video

A marketing video is used to promote a product/service for the purpose of selling. A video will typically present a problem or need that can be solved through the use of your company’s product. Often a video is used to elaborate on the features of the product and present them as benefits. These videos may also include testimonials of previously satisfied customers. Used for:
  •     Sales collateral for potential clients
  •     On the company’s product pages on the website
  •     On the company’s LinkedIn product showcase pages

Induction Video

An induction video is used to welcome new employees to your company. This type of video is typically only used by large companies who have many employees. The video should introduce new employees to the company, orientate them and align their actions with the company’s brand.

Used for:

  • By the Human Resources department to induct new employees

Health and Safety Video (SHE or SHEQ)

A Health and Safety video, sometimes called a health & safety induction video, is used by companies within manufacturing industries where machinery and chemicals are present, such as mining and laboratories.  There should be at least two variations. A shorter video for visitors of your work sites and a longer in-depth video for employees, which should include for example: Correct use of PPE, evacuation procedures, proper machine use etc.

Used for:

  • By the Human Resources department as part of their induction
  • To show visitors of your work sites

Video as Part of Your Content Marketing

This type of video is used to attract like-minded people/followers/connections and establish your expertise. Video should play a part in your content marketing strategy, no matter the size of your company.

This video can be used to generate leads and can act as supplementary sales material.

Used for:

  • Your company Youtube channel
  • Embedded on a blog article to supplement the content
  • Supplementary sales material

Entertainment Video

This type of video should be creative and fun. This video should be used to attract people/followers/connections to your content channels and has the most potential to go viral, which increases your content exposure massively. Avoid marketing speak and ensure your main focus is to entertain viewers. The video titled “Do it For Denmark” is a prime example of an entertainment video that went viral, and it was produced by a travel agency.

Used for:

Tutorial video

If your product or service is complex in nature and requires training to use then you need to ensure you create Tutorial video’s to compliment the rest of the content created for that product. Tutorials can also be used to help establish your company as an expert in the industry by teaching viewers.

Used for:

  • Company Youtube Channel
  • On your company product pages on your website
  • On your LinkedIn Showcase pages- Customer Support

Training Video

This type of video is used to train staff, and is a crucial part of knowledge management. Training videos are only needed by companies that employ a lot of staff. This type of video makes the Human Resources function considerably more cost effective, simply due to the fact that video is easy to consume, easy to distribute and requires less resources to manage.

Used for:

  • Staff training through the Human Resources department
  • Distributed through the company intranet

Inspirational Video

Inspirational videos are used to motivate, inspire and boost the morale of employees through internal events. These videos are typically dramatic and emotive and should be highly relatable for staff.

Used for:

  • Team building
  • Internal events

Explanation or information Video

This type of video is rich in complimentary media such as graphs, and animations. Explanation videos are typically infographic-like, concept-driven and often used to explain abstract concepts. These videos tell a story in a concentrated short video.

Used for:

  • On your company website
  • Landing pages (Lead conversion pages)

Video is an essential tool for any company to use and can fulfil many functions. Now that you know what types of video you get perhaps it’s time to start making proper use of the most popular medium of media on the planet.
