Creating a Site-Specific Health & Safety Induction Video for a Remote Wind Farm
About the Project
Dorper Wind Farm is a 100-megawatt renewable energy facility located between Molteno and Sterkstroom in the Eastern Cape. The site includes 40 wind turbines and operates within an active farming environment, creating a combination of operational, environmental and visitor safety risks. The client needed a more engaging way to communicate essential health and safety information to employees, contractors and visitors. Rather than relying on a traditional presentation-led induction, the goal was to create a video that could clearly communicate site-specific risks, procedures and responsibilities in a more practical and visual format. This made remote safety induction video production an effective way to transform detailed safety information into a more accessible and site-relevant induction experience.
The Production Challenge
The location presented an immediate production challenge. Travelling a full production crew to site was not practical, while the client also wanted the induction to reflect the real environment rather than rely on generic stock footage.
Because camera equipment was already available on site, we adapted the production process around the resources available. This allowed us to develop a remote safety induction video production approach that retained authentic site footage without requiring a conventional crew-led shoot.
Remote Production Direction
Our production team worked directly with the client to guide the filming process remotely.
We advised on framing, camera positioning, composition and how to work with the available natural light, including positioning subjects appropriately in relation to the sun. Through this approach, our production experience remained part of the shoot even without a crew physically on location.
This hands-on direction was central to the remote safety induction video production process, helping the client capture material that could be effectively incorporated into the final film.
